Meet Prime – and by Prime he’s named after Optimus not Beef! Prime is a young male Rottweiler who enjoys showing off in the breed ring and attending training classes with his mom. He lives with 6 other dogs, 5 cats and his human BFF. Magic loves other dogs and plays with my retired therapy dog Snowie. I spent 1 full year training her everyday with the goal of becoming a therapy dog. Magic also loves to use her nose and find cookies that are hiding for her to find. She is a small America Black Lab around 53 lbs. and loves to chase the laser light as her favorite toy. She and I can’t wait to meet you and bring a little Magic to your life!
Annabelle is a Rottweiler who I adopted in October 2006. We have spent a tremendous amount of time together training and showing in AKC Obedience events, and she has earned numerous titles. But her real joy is therapy work! Annabelle has been a CCC therapy dog since 2008. She truly loves people! In 2011 Annabelle received the Seger Medallion, offered each year by Colonial Rottweiler Club, for the therapy dog that has exemplified extraordinary service to mankind. She has accumulated over 300 hours of service and continues to enjoy every visit with her many special friends. Annabelle is truly a versatile little girl, and a wonderful ambassador of her breed.
Meet Bali! Bali is a happy, wiggly, pit-mix with a knack for making funny faces. His hobbies include: chilling on the beach, playing with his dog-cousins, and licking anyone who will hold still. Bali is a very smart little guy who will do anything for a treat and cannot wait to wiggle his way into the hearts of everyone he meets! Fun fact: “Bali” is short for “Baleada”, which sounds like a mouthful but is actually the Honduran version of a burrito. So, his name essentially means burrito. We are so excited to meet you and share his infectious joy with you!”
Baxter is a 21 month old mini golden doodle. He loves to play fetch, enjoys long belly rubs, and loves to cuddle! Baxter’s loving nature brings smiles to everyone he meets and we are so excited to make new friends on all of this therapy dog adventures!
Bella is a cheerful, high- energy Havanese dog born on January 10, 2006. Bella has been an active pet therapy dog for about seven years. During her most active year of pet therapy work, Bella completed nearly 100 visits to hospitals, senior centers and elementary schools. Bella just can’t seem to get enough belly rubs and she is always happy to wag her tail in appreciation. Thank you to all of those patients and people who shared their stories with Bella. It was her pleasure and honor to get to know you! As Bella would say, “woof!” a.k.a live, love and bark!
Benji is a 5 year old Bichon Frise. He enjoys long walks, and loves to run and play in the snow. He is very good about wearing his boots outside. We are active in visiting our local hospital and some nursing homes. He loves the attention and we both love the smiles we receive from visiting others. He has always brought me so much joy, and it is so rewarding to share him with others. Benji was certified 3 years ago.
Boudreaux "The Horse"
Boudreaux (aka The Horse) is a 2yr old Catahoula from northwest Louisiana. He was rescued as a little 8 week old, 7lb pup who had contracted parvo before being brought to the shelter. After a scary ER visit, IV fluids/meds, and lots of rest, little Boudreaux was cleared to fly to Philadelphia and settle into his furever home. Fast forward two years, and The Horse is now a HEALTHY 80+lb giant, who couldn’t be any cuter if he tried. He loves being a wiggle butt, making new friends of all species, tooting after meals, and posting pictures for his Instagram followers. He looks forward to a long career as a therapy dog and bringing some southern hospitality to all who cross his path!
We call him “Buddy Lovealot”. Buddy is a two year old ten pound brindle shih tzu. He lives with his owner, Vickie, and family of six in Buckingham, Pa. Buddy has been Vickie’s office dog for her ultrasound practice since he was only 9 weeks old. He has always been very passionate about greeting all the pregnant mommies and their families that walk through the door everyday. Vickie knew from day one that he was therapy dog material. His loving personality and docile nature wins everyone over especially children. Due to this, Buddy has also taken on the role of being a Roxy Reader Therapy Dog team with Vickie at local area elementary schools. Buddy sits with the children individually and listens to them read. Children have shown to concentrate better in their reading to Buddy than to the teachers. It is with great love and obedience that Buddy continues to be a Comfort Care Canine and Roxy Reader Therapy Dog!
Charlie is a one year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel/ Miniature Poodle mix, otherwise known as a Cavapoo. Full of energy he loves strolls to the park, letting his long ears flow in the wind on car rides, and enjoying his favorite dog treats. Charlie loves meeting new people and is excited to provide his therapeutic services to the Philadelphia area.
Chester is a five year old English Shepherd who has many jobs on our farm. He is our Farm Greeter, Barn Police, and Alpaca Herder when someone leaves a gate open! He has a wonderful, calm and loving demeanor, and is the perfect dog for therapy visits. .Kudos to Chester!
Colbie is a 19 month old human in a Black Lab costume. She enjoys walks with her mom and dad, car rides hanging out the window and tug of war with any human or canine she can coerce into playing with her. Colbie thinks she is pretty cool as she has a talent for holding multiple toys at once. See below. At nighttime, it’s pretty pathetic, but her humans love to watch her carry her favorite blankie into bed, roll it up with her paws and fall asleep with “woobie” in mouth
Hi my name is Cosmo. I’m a bichon frise. I am cheerful, curious, playful and love being around people. I can twirl if you ask and love to cuddle. My favorite food is cheese. I love to take walks and play in the snow.
Dillon "The Dill" Pickle
This handsome guy is Dillon “The Dill” Pickle. He is a 1 ½ year old mini Dachshund and the fourth CCC therapy dog for Gene and Alicia Harantschuk. Dillon wants nothing more than to please us. It doesn’t matter if it is obedience, tricks, running errands, or being a best friend, he excels at everything he does. He is a go anywhere, do anything kind of guy. Dillon has earned many AKC titles but it is his "Best Friend" title that means the most to his family.
Emma Jean (Retired)
Meet Emma Jean! She was rescued from a high kill shelter in Philadelphia at 12 weeks old with a fractured leg. From that first day I met her I knew she was something so very special! Emma and I became a member of CCC when she was just a year old in 2003, just celebrating our 10 year anniversary. At 11 ½ years old Emma continues to visit, act as the “test” dog at most CCC evaluations and rules over our pack of 8 dogs. There isn’t a person or dog that Emma doesn’t love! People talk about their “Heart” dog, their once in a lifetime and for me Emma is that dog.
Finn, an Australian Shepherd Collie mix, loves people and getting petted and treats. He really love belly rubs and can’t wait to meet new people and help make others as happy as he is.
Frankie is a one-year-old beagle mix who sees the potential for friendship in everyone she meets. And she isn’t shy about expressing her affection! While she loves the vibrant social scene of city life in Philadelphia, she also appreciates a good romp through the woods. She’s excited about all the new friends she’ll make in her new role as a therapy dog.
Franklin was born on New Year’s Eve 2015in Quakertown, PA and in April 2016, he began learning about the city of Philadelphia. He loves dog parks and walks in particular Rittenhouse square. In good weather he has been known to run to “rocky steps”
Frannie is the dog on the bed looking guilty after eating a stuffed Santa. Frannie is a Cane Corso rescue dog. Frannie was dumped in Fairmount Park as a puppy? Along with her companion, Shady They both volunteer in the Pottstown School District by helping kids to read.
Gary Swartz is a 17 month old Gjimolden Doodle. He loves children, seniors and swimming. He regrets his absence of traditional coloring and overcompensates with affection for all
Isabelle (aka Izzy) is not just a therapy dog, she is one of CCC's test dogs. Superstar Izzy!!
Izzy is a 2-year-old husky-beagle mix who is brightening the streets of Philadelphia with her exuberance and affection. She’s a certified Canine Good Citizen who loves to give kisses to every new person she meets. Kids (and adults) love learning why Izzy has one blue eye and one brown eye.
Jax is a 2 year old Plott Hound mix. He was adopted from a shelter in Philadelphia and loves the outdoors, playing with others and cuddling
Keeper and Hudson
Keeper and Hudson are English Labrador Retrievers. They really enjoy their visits to a skilled nursing facility. They take turns volunteering, so each of them has a special day to bring smiles and cheer. They are the best of friends, and like to cuddle together on their dog bed. Long dog walks, and meeting other dogs and their owners, keep their tails wagging
LaLa is a sweet, chocolate Labrador Retriever whom we adopted from the Humane Society in August of 2013. We learned right away, despite having been surrendered twice before we adopted her, that LaLa truly loves people of all ages! She is very affectionate, loves being petted and is a gentle soul. LaLa is always wagging her tail and wiggling her butt, especially as she meets someone new. LaLa is looking forward to bringing puppy kisses and lots of love as she embarks on her career as a therapy dog.
Libby was born on June 10, 2016 and came to her forever home on August 4. She loves patio dining, chatting with human and dogy friends. Business pretty much stops when she visits her friends at her favorite hangouts, including the Apple Store. Nothing beats a good romp at a dog park and the dirtier Libby gets the better she likes it! Libby got started on therapy work even before certification, visiting the assisted living community where her Nanny had lived as well as a few local senior residences
Luna, a young lab/hound mix is a sweet, fun, wiggly, curious, goofy, people-loving, dog-loving pup. Luna loves running really fast, eating treats, giving/receiving hugs and kisses, showing off all her tricks. She has so much fun meeting all different kinds of people who always leave with smiles. Her charm and silly personality is contagious.
Mack is a mini-goldendoodle who was born on a farm in Ohio and currently lives in Philadelphia. Mack loves belly rubs, long walks, playing with friends, treats and cuddles. He is very outgoing and loves everyone he meets. He instantly puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Macy came from Kentucky by way of her foster mom through Almost Home Dog Rescue in Doylestown. Macy is also a proud Canine Good Citizen. Although she may play shy at first, she loves being the center of attention in a room full of people. Her happiness and love are truly contagious and she is so excited to share her infectious personality with everyone she meets. In her spare time, she loves to go on her morning runs with Mom, snuggle on the couch, and cajole treats out of Dad.
Mae Belle (Retired)
Mae Belle is a rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound. She came to us with no knowledge of how to live in a home and no obedience skills. Training a hunting hound was a learning experience for all of us. She now visits local facilities regularly and loves cuddling on the sofa with residents. Don’t let this calm girl fool you. She hasn’t lost touch with her roots and can be seen running laps in our backyard tossing her head back serenading us (and our neighbors) with the signature hound bay.
Max is a very sweet and a loving Golden Retriever with a great temperament. He enjoys chewing sticks in the yard, greets his humans with a lot of excitement and toys, and absolutely loves being petted. Max is a very good boy and brings a lot of joy to everyone around him.
Ming Ming is a Chow Chow and has been Working for 5 years as a AKC Therapy Dog. She is Our Miracle Dog. When Her Mon was half through the Pregnancy, she was involved in a devastating kennel fire and her Breeder expected her to Miscarry. A month later, she delivered 5 healthy pups and they became known in the Chow Chow Circle as “The Miracle Litter”. Ming Ming enjoys spending time with seniors and children, belly rubs, playing in the snow and eating cookies.
Mishmish is a labradoodle from Massachusetts, born in June 2015. His name means apricot. He is a gentle, sweet guy who loves to play tug of war and keep away, but most of all, loves belly and back rubs.
Moses was found in a junk yard in the city at about 12 weeks old, hairless and covered in scabs he was rushed to the emergency clinic. It was a year of battling malnutrition and rickets, visiting specialist trying to make the best decisions for his comfort and well-being. After being told by a local orthopedic surgery he should be euthanized, we only fought harder! Long story short Moses has deformed front legs, however they work just as well as the next guy and he never let it get him down. I decided he was a wonderful, calm dog with something special to share with everyone! As a CCC therapy dog Moses has visited children with Cerebral Palsy and Autism, the Boy Scouts and many other venues with children who are inspired by his “it’s OK to be a little different” attitude.
Mr. Smart T Pants
Meet Smart T, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. A 2016 winner of the Phillies Bark in the Park, Mr. Pants loves children of all ages. Nothing makes him happier than letting you stroke his ears (and there is a lot to stroke) and rub his belly.
My name is Neeko, a golden retriever who became a therapy dog at 1 yr. old, and have been visiting nursing homes ever since… I love to make people smile, and I spend most of my play time with my brother Molson, who visits every other weekend….I love going for walks, I get my leash and bring to my parents whenever I want to go for a walk…They now spell L-E-A-S-H, but I’ve learned to spell
Nellie is a Bernedoodle. She is half Bernese Mountain Dog, half Poodle. She is super lazy and affectionate and has the most amazing golden hazel eyes that look right into your soul. Nellie’s favorite activities include being chased, laying outside in any temperature, playing in a hose, and sitting under her mommy’s feet wherever possible. Nellie is known to shower kids with kisses and roll over for belly rubs for those who may be elderly or less confident around dogs. She can’t wait to share her love through therapy work! Nellie has held her therapy dog certification and CGC since May 2016.
Nessie (aka “the Loch Ness Princess”) is a Shetland Sheepdog who loves playing soccer, catching her bamboo disc, frolicking in winter’s snow and summer’s sand, and performing tricks. Nessie relishes the smiles and hugs of children at CHOP (and of the parents and hospital staff too) and especially enjoys visiting the therapy gyms at an adult rehab hospital where she can sometimes be incorporated into a patient’s therapy exercise. It is so rewarding for me to spend time with my sweet Sheltie in a way that also helps others.
Oakley is mellow southern gentleman. He was rescued from South Carolina by the good folks at Home at Last. Our best guess is that he is about 4 and a mix of rottweiler, lab, and Anatolian shepherd. He is bringing lots of happiness to his rescue family and loves to spread his love and southern charm to those he visits.
Olaf was originally being trained to become a Seeing Eye dog but was disqualified due to a medical condition. He has be “re-purposed” to become a therapy dog. In particular, Olaf likes to work with autistic and handicapped children and currently visits several schools and hospitals in the Bucks county area.
Oliver was rescued from Mexico City, Mexico. A friend of his owners found puppies in a trash bag abandoned on the side of the road at a week old and they were lucky enough to have Oliver become theirs. He was named Oliver after “Oliver Twist” because he was an orphan. Oliver loves people and dogs and is always excited to meet a new face. He lives in Center City, Philadelphia and makes people smile on the streets of Philadelphia on a daily basis. He is so excited to begin working as a therapy dog and bring his joyous spirit to all the people he meets!
Olivia Lee Longbottom (Deceased)
Olivia is a mini long hair Dachshund. We are known as fearless hunters that are stubborn and difficult to train but I am not your average “Badger Dog”. My favorite thing in life is food! With my long body, mom says I need to keep my super model figure and watch what I eat. I know over 20 tricks and love to show off with my sister Vegas. My short legs make it hard to do many of the things my sister can do but I still get in on the act.
Penny is a one year old Frenchie who was born to be a therapy dog! She loves people and can barely get through a walk in the city of Philadelphia where she lives because she wants everyone we pass to pet her! Penny is the sweetest puppy you will ever meet. She loves to eat, sleep and play with other dogs.
Two years of searching brought Penny to her current owner. From day one she was a therapy dog to a family member recovering from a stroke. She was perfection and did not mind the equipment at all. Penny had “on the job” training and did her ” internship” at home. Penny was therapeutic for all of us during those years. Certified therapy dog was a nature progression for Penny and today she can be seen all over town for regular visiting.
Pippa, a rescue from Alabama, is about 18 months old. She enjoys playing agility, lure coursing and basic obedience class. Working on her therapy specialty right now she is going to a Silver Sneakers program at our YMCA.
Quincy and Percy
Raina is a one-year-old lab/coonhound mix who was born in South Carolina and raised in Philadelphia. Her name means Queen. She’s a social butterfly and loves hanging out with her dog park friends, accompanying her humans to outdoor dining, and receiving pets from strangers. Meeting you will brighten her day as much as she hopes it will brighten up yours! She’s also a little adventure bug, and enjoys hiking through the woods, staring out the window on long car rides, and exploring the park with her nose. Other hobbies include treat puzzles, playing fetch, and snuggling.
This is Reed, a 5 year old rescue dog who found his forever home in 2015 and also found out that he loves to make people happy! The first time he visited a school, he decided it was the best day of his life and from that day forward, he worked hard to become certified as an official therapy dog. Reed even has a children's book published about his story. The title is Rescuing Reed.
Ringo is an 8 year old Cockapoo who loves long walks in the city to meet new people and find new restaurants where he can sit outside and snack on veggies with his momma
Rio is a 1 year old golden retriever. He is happy, playful and easy-going. When he’s not napping or being petted, he enjoys going on hikes, fetching sticks in the ocean at the dog beach, kayaking, and visiting the dog park. His favorite tricks are “play dead”, “balance” and “give me a hug".
Ruby was born December 1, 2003 and she is a West Highland White Terrier. After a long walk, Ruby loves to snuggle with her furry friend Ava, a white teddy bear that’s almost as big as her and she loves her favorite treats – Billy Jac’s Peanut Butter Goobers. This energetic little dog is all about fun, fun and more fun! It’s impossible not to smile when she’s around. Ruby has been a CCC certified Pet Therapy dog since 2007. She absolutely LOVES her work
Meet Rudy is a Whoodle (Wheaten Poodle mix) and he is taking Philly by storm. This guy is a go anywhere kind of dog thriving on the city streets, in a large busy hospital or at the dog park.
Russell is a 5 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound. Russell has a big personality and a lot of love to give! He enjoys sleeping under the covers, cuddling (he is a great little spoon), trying out new pillows, watching the bachelorette, sniffing everything, and hanging out with his dog brother. He also has a way with the ladies and dated CCC dog, Mae Belle.
Sadie is a drop dead gorgeous goldendoodle who is friendly gentle and obedient. Many have said her flowing locks should be featured on a shampoo commercial.
Sadie likes chasing balls, long walks on the beach, and going to work with her mom. She loves giving people a reason to smile and feel comforted. Sadie, a survivor of many medical issue, hopes be an inspiration to others who may be in in a dark place
Samantha is a 2 year old Border Collie mix rescued from Justice Rescue when she was 10 weeks old. She loves to go exploring new places, long walks and meeting new friends, but dislikes vacuums and lets them know
Samantha is a miniature Australian Shephard and has been doing therapy work since October 2006. She is a Canine Good Citizen and enjoys being outside, chasing squirrels, and doing treibball (ball herding). She also loves making her therapy visits and bringing joy to those who meet her
Shae is a 5 year old goldendoodle. She is originally from Ohio but came to Philadelphia in the fall of 2012 when her family needed to find her a new home. She became a member of Comfort Caring Canines in June 2013. Shae is also a Canine Good Citizen. She volunteers at local libraries and nursing homes
Slim Shady (Retired)
The black dog who has climbed up the swingset steps to play with the kids is Slim . Slim is a Cane Corso rescue dog. Slim Shady is from a basement litter in N. Philadelphia. Along with her With her companion, Frannie They volunteer in the Pottstown School District by helping kids to read.
Sophie is a cockapoo and has been a registered therapy dog since Sept 2012. She’s a busy working girl and makes weekly visits to a nursing home & local hospital, and a monthly visit to the VA hospital. Sophie was made to be a therapy dog and loves her job. She is so excited to meet each person and makes everyone feel special & loved. When she’s not “working”, she loves to take walks, find new smells to sniff, run & play with her doggie cousins and then snuggle up on a lap.
Sparkles Winnie Brownstein is a lab mix who came to the area from South Carolina with the help of Home at Last rescue. Sparkles enjoys time with her best dog friends during the day and snuggling with her sisters Lily( age 9 ) and Emmy ( age 8) at night. Car rides , chewing pigs ears and chasing squirrels are some of Sparkles favorite past times . Sparkles along with the family that belongs to her are very thankful for the opportunity to work with Comfort Caring Canines and we are all very much looking forward to a long , tail wagging happy career as being a therapy dog
Meet Taff, a seven year old border collie mix. Her favorite thing in the world (besides food) is children. She loves going to reading with kids at the library and visiting the playground
Tank is a 15 month old lap dog (Great Dane). He enjoys walks, running and playing with his friends at daycare. His favorite game is chase and when he’s sleepy he likes to lounge on the couch. Tank brings so much joy and happiness to everyone that he meets and he can brighten up anyone’s day with his goofy personality. Tank is a Canine Good Citizen and became a member of Comfort Caring Canines in June 2016
Tessa is a shepherd husky mix and is about 8 years old. She loves to play in the snow, take long walks, get belly rubs, and milk bones
Tilly is a tiny Papillon. Weighing only 5lbs., she fits perfectly in the laps of all her new friends in the nursing homes we visit. She has the best personality, and loves people, so I knew early on that she would be a good therapy dog. She was only a year and a half when she passed her test. She loves her new job, and knows how to be fair with her time. She moves around the room, so everyone gets a little time with her, and makes sure everyone gets a kiss. When she isn’t working, she likes going hiking, doing tricks, playing with her squeaky stuffed toys, and just cuddling up on a warm lap
Tober is a 6 year Lhasa- Apso that loves to be around all kinds of people especially young children. His specialty is visiting with developmentally challenged children. He also visits long term care patients at a local hospital and loves to hang out with students that are distressing for finials
Trinket is CCC’s latest “Jersey Girl”. Trinket is a five pound 3 1/2 year old Poodle with oodles of personality which she can’t wait to share with everyone she meets
Vin, a sweet, fearless 1 year old miniature American Eskimo dog is a petite little thing weighing about 16 pounds. She loves to rough house with her older brother, hiking and swimming outdoors or snuggling her parents and making them rub her belly. Vin looks forward to giving many kisses out during her visits.
Wally a 4 year old cockapoo has been making rounds a the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He just passed trick class level 1. Wally was slow to start but once he caught on for a cheese treat he progressed quickly
Zoey is a 4 year old yorkipoo that loves fetch, new toys, snuggling and doggy daycare. After 4 long rambunctious years, this girl was finally ready to become a therapy dog in September 2016. Zoey and her mom want to honor the memory of our friend Andrew in all of the therapy work we do – he inspired us to get certified
River, a 9 year old Gordon Setter, who loves people, makes visits at hospitals and nursing homes in the Philadelphia area. He especially likes when people pet him and tell him how beautiful he looks. When not making visits, River loves to take long walks or chases squirrels or birds in our back yard.
